Lewis Jackson’s ugly free throw attempt landed on the back iron and stopped dead as if it was deflated. Instead, it dropped through, and Purdue squeezed the air out of Siena’s season, 72-64, in the first round of the NCAA tournament South Regional Friday at the Spokane Arena.

Basketball: Iverson?????
Tuesday, November 17, 2009

I'm not sure about this one, but I like the idea that the Knicks are at least considering spending some money to make this year's team a bit better.

Allen Iverson, one of the really great little guards of all time and a guy who will constantly bounce up off the floor after getting pounded, is now available. He can score in bunches, even at this stage of his career, but he has his problems, as well.

We already know that Allen doesn't like coming off the bench. The Detroit Pistons, Denver Nuggets and the Memphis Grizzlies found that out. And to be effective, Mr. Iverson needs the ball at all times.

If the Knicks sign him, will they start him?

Better yet, does it even matter?

Although the effort is usually there every night, this Knicks team is hard to watch, even for a lifelong Knicks fan like myself. Maybe getting Iverson would be a spark that could make this team worth watching.

Obviously, the Knicks aren't going anywhere this year. They are waiting for next year, when they have all that cap space. But Knicks fans are tired of waiting, and they shouldn't be expected to wait an entire season while watching bad basketball. That's why the Knicks are at least a little interested in Iverson.

I know he has his problems, but the more I think about it, maybe the Knicks should sign him. It would be worth quite a few brownie points to the Knicks fans, and maybe they'll remember the gesture next year, especially if the team doesn't sign a franchise player (read LeBron James) like it hopes.

Stay tuned.
