— The former treasurer of the Rotterdam Girls Softball League has been accused of embezzling more than $8,000 from the league.

Albany County sheriff's deputies said Rae A. Lynch, 43, of 2981 Nancy Lane, Guilderland, was the league's treasurer from October 2006 to October 2008 and was writing checks payable to cash that she cashed to purchase personal items also to pay her mortgage and veterinarian bills.

The missing money was discovered when a new league treasurer took over and determined Lynch used a league check to pay her county property taxes, deputies said. The Albany County Department of Finance was contacted, and officials from there in turn notified the sheriff's office.

Lynch was charged Wednesday with third-degree grand larceny and released on her own recognizance, though deputies said more charges are expected.
