— A Schenectady police officer acquitted earlier this year of harassing his ex-wife faces new charges that he threatened to kill her.

Officer John W. Lewis, 39, was charged today with third-degree stalking and second-degree aggravated harassment, according to a complaint filed in City Court. He pleaded not guilty and was released pending his next appearance on Nov. 24. An order of protection was issued, and he was also suspended without pay from the police force, according to a statement from the department.

The complaint said Lewis repeatedly called and harassed Allison Fitz Lewis, saying he was going to keep coming over to her house every night and start going out looking for her. He said he was never going to let her go or be with someone else, and if he found her with someone, he was going to kill her and "whoever she was with," according to the complaint.

The complaint alleges a series of confrontations dating back to Aug. 13, when, the complaint alleges, John Lewis threatened to go to the home of Allison Lewis' new boyfriend and threaten to talk to the boyfriend's ex-wife. On Nov. 4, the complaint contends, John Lewis told Allison Lewis personal information she claimed could only have been obtained by reading her private e-mail.

Three days later, the complaint alleges, John Lewis repeatedly rang the doorbell of Allison Lewis' home at 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 7 and when she finally answered the door, he repeatedly asked her who she was with.

City Court Judge Guido Loyola found John Lewis innocent of harassment in June following a two-hour non-jury trial after Alison Lewis accused him of grabbing and pushing her during a dispute over their child on Plymouth Avenue in April. He was also charged at the time with criminal contempt for allegedly violating an order of protection, a charge that has yet to be adjudicated.

The police department suspended Lewis for 30 days, the maximum, at the time of Allison Lewis' initial complaint in April and launched an internal investigation. The results of that internal investigation were not immediately available.

GOOD! Now does this mean SPD is hiring again? I'm pretty sure there are other cops out there just like this guy that also need to get the boot.

lawschoolorbust just what we need another liberal lawyer. Since you are trying to become a lawyer you might want to remember that there are two sides to every story or else all of your clients will be guilty as charged and there will be no need of youir services.

There will, however, still apparently be a need for spell check though. After thoroughly examining the facts as reported by the "Daily Gazette.com" I am comfortable with my judgement that this particular officer should not be placed to serve in any law enforcement capacity and should be immediately relieved of his duties before another tax derived dime enters his bank account. And now he is claiming an unnamed disability so that he may still collect more money during this 30 day suspension? I think any logical person would agree that we don't need people like this, without integrity or discipline, "protecting" us.
